Le musée d’Orsay fut créé en 1986 dans la gare ferroviaire construite pour l’exposition universelle de 1900. Les collections rassemblent les arts décoratifs et artistiques de 1848 à 1914. Cette période très instable politiquement inspire nombre d’artistes qui vont s’opposer entre l’académisme officiel et un avant-gardisme naissant qui mènera à la peinture moderne. Le musée possède la plus importante collections de peintures impressionnistes et postimpressionnistes du monde : Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, Van Gogh… Très aéré et spacieux, le musée offre une muséographie très accessible et riche en thématiques sur cette période caractérisée par la naissance de l’artiste engagé.

 The musée d’Orsay opened in 1986, it is housed in the former railway station built in 1900 for the World’s fair. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. This period was politically instable and the artists were very involved to change the society fighting against the official academism. Their avant-gardisme broke the rules and led to the modern art.  The museum houses the largest collection of impressinonist and post-impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, Van Gogh…  Very airy and spacious, the displaying offers many ways to approach the various themes of this period marked with many ups and downs.
